Children and Youth Ministries at LCR
“Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs.”
— Luke 18:16
Our congregation is strongly dedicated to engaging our youth in worship and
praise. The youth program at LCR seeks to strengthen the faith of our young
people and create a culture where they will feel at home in church, as well as
in the community spreading the Good News of God's love in Jesus Christ. We hope
to build a solid foundation for a lifetime of spiritual growth.
Youth Groups
Our youth groups are active and fun for all. Through Sunday school
classes, youth group meetings, retreats, mission trips, and other age
appropriate activities, we build communities of peers where our young people
can grow comfortable in their faith.
- Middle School (6th - 8th grade)
- Senior High (9th - 12th grade)

3rd Grade Bibles
As we hope to encourage regular reading of the Bible by our children,
each 3rd grader enrolled in Sunday School will receive a Bible during
worship services on Rally Day, at the beginning of the Sunday School year. If your child
is older than 3rd grade, but has not yet received a Bible, we would love for
them to have a Bible as well. Please contact the office for more
information.
First Communion
First Communion Instruction will be held on September 13, 2009 from 12:30
- 2:30pm. LCR will celebrate First Communion on World Communion Day, October
4, 2009. Understanding the
meaning and significance of Communion is an important element of our faith
tradition and all 4th graders (or those beyond 4th grade who have not yet
had First Communion) should attend these classes.
Confirmation Ministry At LCR
Confirmation in the Lutheran church flows from baptism, and our whole
congregation assumes the responsibility of encouraging and supporting our
youth in the confirmation process. Confirmation education at the Lutheran
Church of the Resurrection is a two year program that includes classes, an
annual confirmation retreat, and scheduled participation as acolytes,
crucifers and
Communion Assistants in the worship life of the Church.
Confirmation classes are open to baptized youth in 7th and 8th grades –
or older baptized youth who have not been confirmed and would like to pursue
their spiritual education in the Lutheran church.
Our primary goal for confirmation is to establish, encourage and deepen a
relationship with Jesus Christ and a lifestyle of discipleship among our
young people. Confirmation classes consist of two main parts: Sunday
morning Catechism & Bible instruction (9:45am-10:45am) and Wednesday evening
service learning opportunities (6:30pm-8:00pm). Sunday morning classes
are for those youth in 7th-8th grade and are taught primarily by Crystal
Oxner and Pastor Dave. Wednesday evening, all 6th-8th grade youth are
invited to participate in Akaloo service learning activities. All
classes are held in the Middle School Youth Room downstairs.
Confirmation Day is a public celebration of the learning and commitment
of the young people who have completed this two year program.
