ELCA World Hunger
The
Evangelical Lutheran Church in America’s (ELCA) commitment to supporting
people who live with chronic hunger and poverty around the corner and
around the world is carried out by ELCA World Hunger through relief,
development, education, and advocacy. ELCA World Hunger supports "partner
organizations" that carry out international relief and development on the
ELCA's behalf with grants from money raised by the World Hunger Appeal.
Also, the program helps fund more than 200 relief and development projects
in the United States through grants.
Volunteer Opportunities
- Financial Supporter – LCR supports the ELCA’s World Hunger
program by raising funds through the youth’s annual Souper Bowl of
Caring and Stand With Africa campaigns. LCR youth also
collect pledges for their participation in a Thirty-Hour Famine
each spring. During this retreat, youth spend 30 hours without food,
engaging in service and study activities to get a taste of hunger and
homelessness. (The Thirty-Hour Famine supports World Vision’s
Christian relief and development efforts.)
