Heifer International
Heifer International offers hungry people in impoverished areas around
the world the opportunity to feed themselves and become self-sustaining
through the gift of farm animals and training in their care.
The community can buy “shares” of heifers (pregnant cows), sheep,
goats, llamas, sheep, chickens, pigs, rabbits – even bees and trees – at a
carnival-like event called a Heifer International Marketplace. Each year, LCR hosts this event to raise thousands of dollars “to fill an ark” or
two! There are tons of fun activities at the marketplace for both kids and
adults – including exciting learning opportunities, musical entertainment,
games, a playground-size ark, delicious food and even an opportunity to
bring your pets for the Blessing of the Animals!
